Dutch pundits have questioned Liverpool's interest in Ajax defender Perr Schuurs.

The young stopper was linked with Liverpool last week, but his struggles in the Champions League suggest he isn't ready for such a step reasons former Holland stars Pierre van Hooijdonk and Rafael van der Vaart.

Van Hooijdonk said on Studio Voetbal: "In the Champions League, they have fallen in a hole a few times and Schuurs in particular has received a lot of criticism.

“He made a wrong choice against Liverpool which caused a goal against them and Duván Zapata also startled him sometimes (for Atalanta).

"But I watched Schuurs against FC Utrecht and I really thought he played great."

Van der Vaart also said: “He is being punished internationally, but in the Netherlands you can get away with it. He has developed well, but he also has to get better very quickly in the Champions League.

"He's just not ready for that yet."
