Dundee Utd deny bid for Newcastle Jets

Dundee Utd not actively seeking ownership of Newcastle JetsDundee United have released a statement distancing themselves from the potential purchase of A-League club Newcastle Jets.

Reports have suggested that the Tayside outfit were set to make an offer to buy the New South Wales club who have recently had their license terminated by Football Australia.

A statement released by United did, however, suggest that owner Stephen Thompson is working on a personal level to fund the mooted £2.5million required to take the club off the hands of the FFA.

"Dundee United is not involved in talks with the Newcastle Jets,' read the statement, 'this is a personal venture for the chairman as part of a consortium," read a statement.

"Any involvement of Mr Thompson in this or any other venture is entirely his prerogative and the board, which he remains fully committed to, is focussed purely on Dundee United delivering a positive end to the season and building for next season."
