Hrvatski Dragovoljac's Tomislav Mrcela has suggested that he could soon be in the Australian national team reckoning.
The 23-year old centre-back was recently watched by Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou and has revealed that he received a phone call from the manager.
Adelaide-born Mrcela, who has been in Croatia since 2001, scored a goal for Hrvatski in their 2-1 loss to Hajduk Split on the weekend and said that the Socceroos had kept in contact.
"He praised my performance, congratulated me on the goal and he surprised me with a statement that they have for some time followed my game and it could easily happen that I soon get a call from Ange Postecoglou," Mrcela told local media.
"I'm just on a broader list at the moment.
"But I read in the Australian media that the coach said there will be some surprises, so who knows?
"I hope I get the chance."
Mrcela joined Dragovoljac from third division club NK Mosor last year and has featured in 14 league games in Croatia's top flight this season.
