Reading attacker Kevin Doyle was delighted to play a key part in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.
He said: "The away goals we have conceded have been highlighted but we have won the same amount of points as we did last season and we have played more top teams than we did last season.
"Our home record has been good. We have to improve on our away form but I am sure we will be fine this season."
Doyle was switched to the right wing for the occasion and did so well he is likely to remain there.
He said: "I prefer playing up front but being on the right gives me a game. It was good to play there because we were on the front foot.
"But I definitely don't want to nail this position down. A couple people said afterwards I could be stuck there for a few games - but I have played there because of the injuries. But I am a striker and defensively-wise, right wing doesn't do a lot for me."
