Downes agrees new deal at Chesterfield

Aaron Downes has agreed to a new two-year deal at Chesterfield FC.

The 23-year old Australian defender will remain at Saltergate until June 2011 despite seriously injuring his knee on the Easter weekend against Darlington.

Downes looks set to miss between six and nine months of action but his contract will be honoured by the club.

"Aaron has been in great form this season and I am delighted that the club has moved quickly to reassure him that his future is with the Spireites," manger Lee Richardson told the club's official website.

"He is a fit young lad and there is every expectation that he will fully recover," Richardson added in regards to Downes' injury.
