Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted that Spurs were dominated by Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 encounter.

Spurs suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bundesliga side Dortmund on Thursday night and in truth, Spurs were a bit lucky not to lose the game by a bigger margin.

Alderweireld was one of the better performers for Tottenham on the night but admitted that his side could have no complaints regarding the result.

Speaking to Tottenham's official website, Alderweireld said: "We started well but they took control and it was a difficult night for us.

"For now we have to focus on an important game at [Aston] Villa on Sunday and then we'll think about the return leg."
