Rochdale have signed Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira on a month-long youth loan.

It's a first spell away from United for the Portugal Under-19 international, who signed for the Reds in 2012 after a successful trial at the Academy.

Rochdale manager Keith Hill told his club's official website: "I'm really pleased to be working with him. He's an exciting goalkeeper. His distribution is flamboyant and his ability in goal is absolutely magnificent. He comes in to push [current Rochdale goalkeepers] Josh [Lillis] and Johny [Diba]."

Hill's goalkeeping coach Steve Collis added: "Joel is at Manchester United for a reason. He comes highly recommended. We got a chance to see him in the Lancashire Senior Cup when we played against United at Altrincham in the summer and he looked to be an exciting goalkeeper. We're bringing him in to enhance our goalkeeping department."
