Middlesbrough have confirmed that Stewart Downing has joined the club on a permanent deal from West Ham United.
The 30-year-old winger has returned to Boro on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £5.5million, after spending the past two seasons at Upton Park.
Downing completes his return to the City Ground where he started his senior career back in 2002 prior to spells with Sunderland (loan), Aston Villa and Liverpool.
Boro boss Aitor Karanka said of the Downing capture: "It's an amazing signing for us. He's more than just a player.
"Nobody expected him to come here, but he wants to be here, and is completely committed to the club and the team. He is a very good person and I'm excited to work with him."
