DONE DEAL: Digne excited joining Coutinho at Aston Villa

Former Everton fullback Lucas Digne has completed his move to Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old, who completed a move from Everton on Thursday, has several honours from his time playing for two of European football's biggest clubs, Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona.

And after head coach Steven Gerrard laid out his plans for Villa to Digne, the France international is fully invested in the project.

“It was the main factor. I came here for the manager," he said.

“I had a very good meeting with him and we spoke a couple of times during this month. I feel his desire to win, to show his football as a manager – the attacking football, the possession.

“I feel it's what I want and what I want to show to the fans."

Digne, who has 43 caps for France, has starred for Everton over the past four seasons since joining them in 2018.

The full-back becomes the club's second January signing after Philippe Coutinho joined on loan earlier this week, and Digne believes the club are in a good position to move forward.

He said: “I'm really happy to be here. It's a big project after the signing of Philippe and the club spending a lot of money last summer.

“The project is really interesting. You can see from last summer that the project is in a good way, and I think all the players want to be here to be part of this project.

“I will try to bring myself. I'm a winner and I want to win every time and show my quality."
