Chelsea wing-back Juan Familia-Castillo excited to make Ajax return

Ajax have clinched the signing of Chelsea wing-back Juan Familia-Castillo.

The Dutch youngster returns to Ajax on-loan with the option to buy in June.

The move is a surprise - particularly the outright option - as Familia-Castillo had only penned a new deal with Chelsea at the beginning of the summer. Coming off contract in June, the 20 year-old agreed and penned terms to 2022. But now has returned to Amsterdam.

Familia-Castillo was originally snapped up by Chelsea from Ajax's academy three years ago.

"Ajax is familiar territory," he told Ajax TV via Voetbalzone.

“I have always been an Amsterdammer myself, because I grew up here. I have met many people here and my family lives here. It feels good to be back here, I missed everyone. I'm really looking forward to it."

Familia-Castillo feels he's a much changed footballer from the one who left Ajax's U17 team for London back in 2016. While he's never managed a senior appearance for the Blues, the youngster was part of the senior training squad.

At Ajax, he returns expecting first team football with last season's Champions League semifinalists. Familia-Castillo says playing for coach Erik ten Hag's first team will be a boyhood dream come true.

“I can attack, defend and be good on the ball. I can work on the entire left side.

"As a little boy it has always been my dream to play in the ArenA.

"I will work hard for it and do everything I have to do. I am proud to play for Ajax and it is good to be back."
