Ajax have clinched the signing of Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The veteran will remain with Everton to the end of the season in England before he departs to return to former club Ajax.

Stekelenburg has signed a contract with Ajax which will extend to next summer.

"Maarten Stekelenburg is not only a well-known name, but also a goalkeeper that we can use well here," says Ajax sports director Marc Overmars.

The move to Ajax will take effect on August 1.
