Arsenal need to buy defenders, admits Johan Djourou.
The Gunners are chasing two centre-backs in Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba, who is rated at £10m, and Bolton's Gary Cahill, who could cost £17m.
But Djourou, 24, is determined to fight for his place. He said: "I hear Arsenal were looking for the player who went to Manchester United.
"We probably need defenders. We are a big club and we need them. I am not worried. I am ready to fight for my place and to be a better player.
"To be the best, you need competition in every position. It's good Arsenal are looking to spend money.
"People say the likes of Manchester City and Spurs are spending money and that it will be tough. Last season, although we finished fourth, we proved people wrong most of the season."
