Johan Djourou is determined to establish himself in Arsenal's defence this season.

The 22-year-old, who is expected to play in the friendly at Barnet tomorrow, said: "I like tough competition. I'm a competitor and I want to win, so it's good to have another player in.

"It's true there are a lot of defenders now. The best will play, so you have to be competitive. It's no different to what I'm used to. I've been here five years so I know what it takes to get into the side. I am ready to come into this Arsenal team when called upon."
