Salif Diao is delighted with his player-scouting role at Stoke City.
When Diao is not playing, Stoke are hoping to use him to improve their contacts in Africa and Europe, and particularly help them recruit young players.
Diao told The Sentinel: "I have a lot of contacts in Africa and in football, so hopefully I can influence players to sign for Stoke.
"Also, I speak French, Italian and Spanish so I can help lads from abroad to settle here.
"When young kids come from abroad, I can be their guide to the football club.
"It is difficult settling at a new club in a new country, no matter how old you are."
