Deschamps warns Tottenham midfielder Sissoko to get off the bench if he wants World Cup spot

France boss Didier Deschamps has sent a stern warning to Moussa Sissoko that he must play more next season or risk missing out on Les Blues' 2018 World Cup squad.

Sissoko has had an underwhelming start to life at Spurs since arriving for £30m from Newcastle last summer.

The 27-year old made only 8 starts in the Premier League this season, and despite being named in the France squad for their upcoming fixtures against Paraguay, England and Sweden, Deschamps has warned Sissoko that the same cannot happen again next season.

"Moussa is the same player. He has had a difficult season with Tottenham," said Deschamps via the Mirror.

"I have picked him again because he is part of the squad.

"For him, and for us, he must not have the same season next year. He has always responded well on the pitch."

The former Toulouse midfielder has been linked with at return to Ligue 1 with Marseille.
