Deschamps delighted Giroud going through 'happy time' at Chelsea

France manager Didier Deschamps is happy to see striker Olivier Giroud enjoying himself at Chelsea again.

Giroud had been making noises about leaving the club in January due to a lack of playing time.

But he earned a start against Sevilla last midweek, scored four goals in a 4-0 win, and then started and scored against Leeds United in the Premier League at the weekend.

Asked about Giroud, Deschamps told a media conference: "We often talk about Olivier. He is often decried. I say it over and over again, many things are unfair to him.

"He has this strength of character. He has done everything to maintain himself athletically. When he is called upon, he scores. When he doesn't score, he is always useful.

"I always thought it was better to have him with you than against you. I'm glad he's going through a happier time, hoping it can last."
