Desailly convinced Zidane wants Real Madrid changes

World Cup winner Marcel Desailly believes France teammate Zinedine Zidane wants to shake-up his Real Madrid squad.

The French coach returned after a disastrous 2018/19 campaign all but ended with Champions League humiliation and his former international teammate explained that changes are coming in the capital.

"What's important is that Zidane wants to create a new dynamic," Desailly said to MARCA after playing for Chelsea legends at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

"His new style of play, new philosophy and he's looking for players. It's clear that he has to get rid of some players with potential, but who aren't worth it anymore.

"For what he wants, they can't stay."

Desailly added: "Returning isn't a problem.

"He's agreed to readjust to a new cycle and he's lucky to have players who still have a lot of quality.

"They just have to have more competition and a new game plan to get back to the top."
