Derby reach wage deferral agreement with players

Derby County have reached a wage deferral agreement with the players.

The Daily Mail says first-team players and management have reached the end of their dramatic stand-off with the club by agreeing 'substantial' deferrals to their wages to help the Championship side get through the coronavirus pandemic.

England's all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney - currently a player at the club - was leading talks on behalf of his team-mates but the two parties were at an initial stand-off.

While the club's stars were happy to defer 25 per cent of their wages, the club was pushing for them to give up half their pay, but it has now been announced that an agreement has been made.

Derby did not give figures but said players had voluntarily agreed a deferral "considerably more than has been reported in the media" and thanked Rooney for his support.
