Derby player-coach Rooney admits he wants to enter management

Manchester United great Wayne Rooney admits he wants to enter management.

Rooney is currently Derby County player-coach - though won't be clear to play for the Rams until January 1.

Speaking for the first time as Derby County player-coach on Friday, Rooney said: "It's brilliant to see what Gerrard and Lampard have done.

"There has been a lack of young former England players going into management over the last 10 or 15 years. Players now have enough money that they don't have to do coaching.

"With TV, they can go into that and earn good money. But with Steven, Frank, John Terry and Scott Parker all getting involved in coaching, it's great to see.

"It's something I have always wanted to do when I stopped playing. It depends how things go for me doesn't it? Ideally I want to get into management and be successful. It's new to me so I don't know if I will be good or bad but I want to get into it and give it a go. I do have a knowledge of the game."
