Derby owner Morris willing to more than double Lampard wages

Derby County owner Mel Morris is willing to more than double Frank Lampard's wages to keep him away from Chelsea.

Morris is prepared to stump up a bumper £2.5m four-year deal to try and persuade his rookie boss to stay.

Lampard took Derby to the Championship play-off final in his first year at the helm but is odds-on favourite to return to Chelsea.

The Daily Star says Morris has already publicly stated how much he wants to hang on to Lampard and is now prepared to put his money where his mouth is.

He's ready to rip up the manager's current £1.75m a year package which still has two years to run.

Derby are prepared to throw in a hefty pay rise and double the length of the deal in a desperate bid to head-off Chelsea's interest.
