Championship side Derby County are close to appointing former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett as their new manager.

Sky Sports has claimed that the Rams have already approached Rowett, who is without a job since he was sacked by Birmingham in December.

The report claims that progress has already been made regarding discussions and a formal deal could be announced as early as Tuesday.

The Rams sacked Steven McClaren on Sunday following a bad run of results in the league.
