Derby County boss Wayne Rooney is closing on a deal for Manchester United defender Teden Mengi.
Rooney is attempting to borrow a talented youngster from his old Manchester United.
Mengi spent the second half of last season with Derby, making nine appearances.
And Rooney is keen on another loan spell for the 19-year-old, with a verbal agreement thought to be in place.
The Athletic report that nothing can be rubber-stamped until Derby's financial situation clears up. Additionally, under the terms of Derby's embargo, loanees would only be able to sign half-season agreements.
There is a chance that Mengi could even line up against Derby when United visit Pride Park next week for a friendly.
