Derby boss Rooney confirms hopes to keep Man Utd defender Mengi

Derby boss Wayne Rooney admits he'd like to extend the loan of Manchester United defender Teden Mengi.

Rooney says he would be keen on signing Mengi on loan for another year, but admitted the decision rests with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 18-year-old centre-back is impressing on loan at Pride Park.

“Yes of course [interested in another loan]. He has a big future and a lot of potential, and it is something I will look at and speak with Manchester United about keeping Teden for another year," said Rooney.

"But that's not down to us that is down to Manchester United.“
