Derby County boss Paul Jewell will make signings in January.
"Whatever happens, if we don't get another point this Christmas period or we get nine points, we're going to try and improve the squad," insisted Jewell.
"We owe it to the supporters and the players already here because they need help. They have found it tough competing at this level.
"I'm sure the players want to see some new faces coming in, so we will get a couple back from on loan and we will maybe bring in one short term and maybe some permanent deals.
"It is what the chairman and I are working hard on, and we've one or two things going on.
"I don't want to say too much because things can come out and it can go against you, but we're hopeful of getting one or two players who might excite people."
