Derby administrators confirm ex-Newcastle owner Ashley not making takeover bid

Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has not made any attempt to buy Derby County.

That is according to Derby County's administrators, who state that no approach has been made by Ashley or anyone associated with him.

Media reports in England indicated Ashley may be on the hunt for a new team, after a Saudi Arabia-led consortium bought him out of the Magpies recently.

"We can confirm we have neither been approached by nor have we entered into dialogue with Mike Ashley," said Andrew Hosking, managing director at Quantuma and joint administrator of Derby County, via BBC.

"As this is an ongoing process, we are unable to comment on the names of the individuals and organisations that have met this criteria at this time.

"Of those who have returned a signed non-disclosure agreement (NDA), several have been able to provide the necessary proof of funds we have requested to be considered as a serious bidder."
