Denilson: Arsenal and London left me emotionally not right

Former Arsenal midfielder Denilson admits he never truly settled in London.

Now 32, the Brazilian is playing for Botafogo and recalled how he left Arsenal to return home.

He told Globoesporte: “I was going to be loaned to other clubs. One of the interested parties was Shakhtar and there was also interest from Sevilla. In fact, a club representative came to lunch at my house.

"But I asked to return to Brazil. Actually, I was going to go to Fluminense, not to Sao Paulo. Things changed at the last moment and I ended up going to Sao Paulo."

Denilson continued: "Since I was at the club (Arsenal FC) for five years and two or three of them completely alone, I started to have people with me, but even so, I missed my family very much.

"Emotionally it was not right ... I had months to get the European passport, which took six years by then. But I couldn't take it anymore. The cold of England ... I was emotionally tired of the country. Within the field it influenced me a lot."
