Denayer determined to gain Man City opportunity

Jason Denayer is intent on earning a regular spot in the Manchester City first team during the upcoming campaign.

Denayer has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe following his impressive loan spell with Celtic last season and it was easy to see why City moved quickly to tie down the Belgian international to a new contract this summer.

With the likes of Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala present at the club, Denayer has a fight on his hands to earn a regular spot in the first team but the youngster is not fazed by the challenge and is intent on earning his chance.

The 20-year old said: "I wanted a deal with City from the start, so when the occasion came, I just signed it. At a big club like this, you have to improve with every training session. So if I do well, I may get the chance to play.

"I think I can play some games– that is why I signed the new deal. I have the confidence. The manager and staff have encouraged me and said I will get my chance."
