Manchester United have made a massive contract offer to Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

United are battling Barcelona for De Ligt this summer.

And Sport reports United are willing to pay De Ligt £240,000-a-week as they look to bolster their leaky defence.

The news outlet claims that Barca are not prepared to get into a wage war and will not match the terms that the Premier League side are offering.

While they also state that the Catalan club wants the 19-year-old to show a 'change of attitude' and to stop asking for more money.

It has previously been reported that the centre-back wants to be the poster boy of United's rebuild and knows he will guaranteed a starting spot at Old Trafford.
