De Gea was ready to quit Man Utd after Euro final

David de Gea was ready to quit Manchester United after the Europa League final defeat last season.

De Gea was left distraught after the match - that went to penalties, reports the Athletic.

It was De Gea's missed spot-kick that saw United miss out on the trophy and hand victory to Unai Emery's Villarreal.

The report states that the keeper gave the impression that he was prepared to walk out on the club then and there and was left inconsolable by the result.

However, the Spain international later met up with manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer to reiterate his desire to stay with the Red Devils in an apparent U-turn over his intentions.

It is also reported that De Gea was keen to stamp his authority on his position in the squad as he looks to win back his first-team spot.
