Former Ajax and Barcelona star Ronald de Boer remains convinced Matthijs de Ligt chose wrong in joining Juventus.
De Ligt left Ajax last summer to sign for the Turin giants.
De Boer lamented: “Clubs closer to the Ajax system, such as (Manchester) City and Barcelona, were interested. It would have been easier to adapt. I thought he would have made a different decision, but I highly respect his decision."
De Boer first came across De Ligt as a 14 year-old prospect.
"I was working at the Ajax Academy, I immediately liked his character: serious, intelligent, kind, he never complained, he worked hard and he learned.
"And he always had the skills of the great defender: he understood where the danger came from ... I remember him in the U-14 team, when he returned the following year he was 30 centimetres taller.
"He will be one of the best of this era, for sure."
