DC United survive upset scare in CONCACAF Champions League

DC United rallied from 3-0 down to secure a 3-3 draw with Jamaican side Montego Bay United in their final group match of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Having already secured qualification to the knockout stage of the tournament, DC rested a handful of key players for the fixture, which nearly saw the visitors suffer a shocking upset defeat at the hands of the Jamaican minnows.

DC's inability to pick up all three points cost the MLS side a chance to secure a top three seed for the sudden-death elimination phase.

Despite the disappointing outcome, DC assistant coach Chad Ashton said he was proud of the way the Washington-based outfit rallied after falling behind by such a large margin.

"I'm very proud of our team and our guys for the resilience of coming back from a 3-0 deficit," Ashton told mlssoccer.com post match.

"I think it's on me a little bit that they didn't show up ready to play and took things for granted the first half and really didn't know what hit them.

"I think you have to give the other team a lot of credit; Montego Bay played very well, especially the first half they had us on our heels, and before we knew what hit us it was 2-0. So, a real credit to them for being very organized and taking the game to us."

"I think we thought we were gonna come out here and just cruise around and cruise through a win. It doesn't matter where you play or who you play. If you don't come out with some real fight and some real personality and you don't do the hard work, you're not going to get a result."
