DC United striker Wayne Rooney says former Manchester United need two more signings before the Premier League deadline falls.

Rooney says they need at least two new faces to have any chance of dethroning champions Manchester City.

"I hope someone can catch [Manchester City] - it would be nice, so hopefully Manchester United can," said Rooney, now at MLS outfit DC United.

“I think maybe another signing or two.

“I know there has been a lot of talk about pre-season in the press but I am sure behind the scenes, Jose (Mourinho) has been giving them the right amount of work."
