DC United coach Rooney keen on Southampton manager's job

DC United coach Wayne Rooney is keen on the Southampton manager's job.

TalkSPORT says Southampton are on the lookout for a new boss after Nathan Jones was sacked following just 14 games in charge.

Rooney, who is currently in charge of DC United, would relish the chance to return to English football.

The report states that Rooney's former England team-mates Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, who are both currently out of work, are also interested in the Southampton job.

Southampton are languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table with just 15 points from 22 games and whoever takes charge faces a major challenge in terms of helping the club to preserve their Premier League status.

Rooney's first managerial job was at Derby, where he was in charge in difficult circumstances before departing for DC United last year.
