Davis implores Southampton to quickly recover from Liverpool disaster

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis says the Saints cannot afford to dwell on their demoralising 6-1 loss to Liverpool in Wednesday's League Cup quarterfinal at St Mary's.

Southampton have an opportunity to bounce back quickly when they host Premier League cellar dwellers Aston Villa on Saturday.

"It's important we pick ourselves up now and hopefully get back to winning ways on Saturday and make sure we get a reaction and that's the most important thing," Davis told Southampton's official YouTube channel.

"We don't want it to happen again. It's making sure it doesn't happen again and how you go about that is making sure we work harder.

"I think it's good to have a game so soon. I think you want to get back out on the pitch and, obviously, the fans deserve more.

"We know we're capable of a lot better than what we've shown tonight and it's just getting back to the sort of standards we set earlier in the season."
