Derby County boss Billy Davies wants his team to build on Monday's victory over Newcastle United.
"And if you don't have pace you can put in distance and mileage and we certainly had that (against Newcastle).
"The ones who aren't renowned for pace did that, Matt Oakley for example.
"He's not regarded as a flying player but, by God, he covered every blade of grass."
Another player the former Preston boss was particularly pleased with was goalkeeper Stephen Bywater, who looked nervy in the defeat at Anfield but caught and punched well against the Magpies.
"He was very good. I think he looked a little unsure at the start of the season but now he looks better and it's great for us.
"It was a great result and a great clean sheet."
