Davies: Spurs players delighted for matchwinner Sanchez

Tottenham defender Ben Davies hailed matchwinner Davinson Sanchez after Saturday's win at Watford.

During an extended period of stoppage time, the Colombia international defender headed home Heung-Min Son's free-kick, securing a 1-0 New Year's Day win at Vicarage Road.

“It did feel sometimes like it could be one of those days but we kept going, we needed a bit of quality at the end, Sonny's ball was an amazing cross and Davinson has managed to get his head to it," Davies said.

“All the boys are delighted in there that he got his goal for all the hard work he's put in recently – and for the last few years that he's been at this club.

“He works his socks off for us and the boys are buzzing he got that winner for us."

On the performance, Davies continued: “Persistence… I think that's the right word.

“We pushed and pushed and pushed, perhaps things didn't fall for us the way we wanted over long periods but we got over the line, we got the three points and that's all that matters. As long as anybody can get it in the back of the net for us, it's three points and we go away happy. A last-minute winner is always special – the fans were awesome in that away end, so it's a great feeling to get those three points."
