Curtis Davies accepts Aston Villa need to deepen their squad before the summer market shuts.

Defender Davies said: "The manager's shrewd. I'm sure he's trying to do things behind the scenes and, hopefully, we can get a few people in.

"It is thin. After the first XI you are looking at a lot of young lads who haven't played much at any level. It would give us a lift to see new faces but they must be quality.

"You can sign players for depth but the type we want to move us forward need to be top quality."
