Former Spain striker David Villa has revealed he came close to joining Real Madrid during his career.

Villa announced his retirement earlier this season.

It didn't happen," said Villa about Real during an interview with YouTuber DJMaRiiO.

"There were a lot of offers for me in Spain and from the Premier League, but I belonged to Valencia.

"I said I'd go when they wanted me to.

"But there has to be the will of both clubs and the player - the circumstances didn't exist."
