Curro Torres exclusive: From Spurs to Atletico Madrid Trippier now 'one of Europe's best'

Former Valencia right-back Curro Torres says Kieran Trippier has been a success at Atletico Madrid.

The England international made the switch to Atleti from Tottenham in 2019.

The move came as a surprise to many given the dearth of English players in La Liga.

Despite not speaking Spanish, Trippier fitted in seamlessly into Diego Simeone's defence as he made 33 appearances in his debut season.

Atleti were flying high to start the season and held a clear lead at the top of the table before hitting a rough patch in the new year.

The drop in form coincided with Trippier serving a 10-week suspension for breaching betting rules related to his move from Spurs to Spain.

Los Colchoneros have not lost in four La Liga matches since Trippier's return. And two-time La Liga title winner Torres thinks the former Burnley star is one of Europe's best right-backs.

"Trippier is a really impressive player," Torres told Tribalfootball.com.

"I think Atlético Madrid have missed Trippier as their form as a team has dropped somewhat since he was banned.

"He is one of the best players in Europe in his position."
