Crystal Palace U23 coach Shaw: No loan window hurting young careers

Crystal Palace U23 coach Richard Shaw says ending the loan transfer window during the season is hurting his players.

A number of players in the Crystal Palace U23s are entering their third or fourth season at that level in the knowledge that they will not make it in the top flight but lacking the senior experience to gain a move elsewhere.

Shaw told the London Evening Standard: "They miss out on a lot of values in terms of not going out on loan.

"I don't see the value of stockpiling in the 23s, I just don't and I work in the 23s. You need to go out and play. We've got too many boys that haven't experienced a loan and it disappoints me.

"Nowadays the players get a lot done for them at a very young age and I think that is to the detriment of them learning quickly, they should be on loan.

"The harsh reality is, the guys that are here now are not going to make it at Crystal Palace, they are not going to make it in the Premier League. It is tough, it is hard. They might make it in League One, Two or the National League.

"They need to get used to the rigors of that, playing twice a week - we don't do that. You see a difference when players come back from loan, I would just like more to go out. As much as I enjoy their company at times, they are hearing my voice time and time again, they need to hear different voices."
