The Dutchman was linked with a move to PSV Eindhoven.
But Sky Sports reports the Eredivisie club will drop their interest if they complete a deal for AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.
Reports suggest PSV and Milan are close to agreeing a switch.
PSV had put in three bids for van Aanholt this month.
