Bolton secured the services of Paddy McCarthy from Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
The 31-year old defender has joined the Trotters on loan for the remainder of the season following a recent spell with Sheffield United.
Republic of Ireland centre-back McCarthy has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park but will now look to help 18th-placed Bolton climb up the Championship table.
McCarthy's first duty under Neil Lennon could occur in Wednesday night's derby clash with 11rh-placed Blackburn Rovers.
