Crystal Palace defender Andersen laments lack of 'killer instinct' for Arsenal defeat

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen admitted frustration after their 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal for their opening Premier League match.

Gabriel Martinelli nodded in a 20th-minute opener from new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko's headed assist.

Then Palace defender Marc Guehi inadvertently headed Bukayo Saka's fierce cross into his own goal late on.

Andersen said, "We played better at the end of the first half and in the second half we were really good. We just need that killer instinct: we have to be aggressive to win games and we have to work on that. We spoke about being in their faces, being annoying, irritating them. We know we don't like that. We played really well but didn't get the reward.

"There was a good intensity today. I'm tired and I know the rest of the players are really tired. It was a good first game of the season.

"The second goal defines the match a little bit; it was hard to come back from there. For the first 20 or 30 minutes, we were behind them. It's not possible that we concede these goals."
