Crystal Palace boss Vieira concerned refs treating Zaha differently

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is concerned referees are targeting Wilfried Zaha.

During Saturday's 0-0 draw, Palace had appeals for a late penalty at Brentford ignored by referee Simon Hooper following a challenge by Rico Henry on Zaha.

Zaha has been on the receiving end of rough treatment throughout his career and previously been forced to publically hit back at accusations he goes to ground too easily.

Vieira said: "I just hope that the referee don't have a special treatment for Wilfried Zaha. I just have to hope he is treated like every other player in the Premier League."

Vieira had not seen replays of the incident and was more concerned with the lack of players Palace threw forward at times against Brentford as they struggled to create clear chances during the goalless draw.

"It is desire to be inside that box and also about training players, needing to understand when is the right time to get there," Vieira said.

"From this game we will have a couple of images that we can show them on Tuesday but yes we need to put that in their mind.

"We will be more dangerous if we have more people inside the box. We have Conor [Gallagher] who is doing it fantastic.

"Wilfried I think can get there more often and one of the midfielders can get there so it is something we need to concentrate [on] a bit more.

"It's the balance to find and it's about understanding the situation - when you can go inside the box or not.

"The perfect one was at the end the ball to Wardy [Joel Ward] and he delivered that cross, we needed and I wanted Wilfried to anticipate to be there, to compete for that cross and that is something that is game understanding as well so we have to work on that but it is also the desire of players to get into the box."
