Croatia star Ivan Perisic believes that memories of 1998 will play a big role in how motivated his team are to fight against the French in the World Cup final.

The Croats reached the final after dispatching with England in extra time thanks to a Mario Mandzukic goal.

Perisic himself netted the equaliser in normal time, hitting the post shortly after.

Perisic told FIFA.com: "France stopped us in the semi-finals in 1998. We will have some extra motivation because of that, for sure.

"They are favourites, but we will do our best to surprise them. We have three days to prepare ourselves. Our dream is so close now."
