Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is unsure of Max Clayton's next move.
The striker has spent time with Sunderland and Wolves in preseason. He now is being linked with Everton.
"I don't know, I'm not sure what his next move is," Davis said.
"I spoke to him last week and he was also waiting for his next move.
"I spoke to the chairman (John Bowler) over the weekend and we are non the wiser other thank Wolves have not decided to take him so we will just have to see what's next for him.
"If he wants to come back to Crewe of course we would welcome him back but that's his decision.
"We will welcome a player back if he wants to come back but if he does not then that's his decision.
"Max and his agent will know where the next move is but I don't know what his agent has got lined up for him."
