The Alex will host Mark Hughes's side at Gresty Road on Sunday, July 30 - with Stoke promising to field at least six senior players.
“I think it is about time Crewe played Stoke. It has been too long," said Artell, who guided his side to finish 17th in League Two after taking over from Steve Davis.
“I've been promised that they will bring half a dozen experienced pros, so hopefully the fans will come. It's the week before the season and will be our only home friendly because of the work on the pitch.
“I'm sure Stoke will bring a few fans as well. There should be a good atmosphere and should be a good one for the supporters. It is one to look forward to."
