Underdogs Coventry City sealed their place in the Championship play-off final on Wednesday night.
The Sky Blues won 1-0 against Middlesbrough away from home thanks to a Gustavo Hamer goal in the second half.
Despite a lot of possession and chances in the latter stages of the game, Boro were unable to take the game to extra time.
Middlesbrough manager and former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, who took the club from 21st in the table to the playoffs this season, was disappointed at the end of the contest.
Coventry will now go on to play Luton Town for a chance to join Burnley and Sheffield United in the Premier League.
Luton were winners over Sunderland in their play-off semi final on Tuesday.
