Coventry pair Robins and Moore hail impact of Chelsea defender Maatsen

Coventry City manager Mark Robins and goalkeeper Simon Moore have sung the praises of on-loan Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen.

Maatsen joined the Championship side on a season-long loan in the summer and has played 15 out of 16 games for the Sky Blues.

They sit fourth in the table and Maatsen has been a great asset for the West Midland side, alongside Jake Clarke-Salter, also a Blues loanee.

In an interview with The Athletic, the Sky Blues manager and goalkeeper heaped praise on the young Blue.

"It says a lot about how good he is that even a slightly off day stands out as exceptional. It is not normal. The kid is bright, he's hugely talented, he wants to learn, and he never gives up," said Moore.

"He's got such a good temperament, he's settled in with the group, and he's soaking it all up like a sponge. I think he feels comfortable here, and he is only going to get better and better.

"Maats has got an exciting future ahead of him."

Manager Mark Robins also spoke highly of the connection between both Chelsea and Coventry.

"Our recruitment department have cultivated a good relationship with Chelsea over the years. They know how we play, the style of football we are trying to promote, and they want to send their players here as part of their education.

"They are benefitting from Chelsea plotting that development. Now throw in working again with Adi, a really good coach, and you can see why they would want to be a part of this."
