Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has reportedly told midfielder Gaston Ramirez he is free to leave the Saints during the January transfer window.

The Daily Mirror is reporting Southampton have forked out in excess of £21million in transfer fees and wages since the Uruguayan signed from Bologna in 2012.

The player has reportedly cost the club £8,000 for every minute of action he has seen in a Saints shirt.

Koeman confirmed the player has no future at the Stadium of Light: "The situation with Gaston is different to our other players because he is ending his contract.

"He is not in the plans for the future of the club."
